Memories from SU Days

Bringing SU people to remember their SU days always comes with a lot sweet and laughter provoking memories. In discussing the development of SU with those who were there it becomes clear that SU staff played a pivotal role in driving the organization. They had to deal with extreme doctrinal inclinations of students. Sometimes letters were written to expose books with false doctrine. All SU staff members who served were respected as a father figure because of the love and care they gave to the flock of God.

An incident is remembered of a wedding of an SU teacher where Paul Makanyaga driving to a wedding had to keep on coming back to pick those who were walking from a great distance to the wedding. While others were transported, the remaining kept on moving singing choruses waiting for their turn to be picked. There was a family spirit and unity that prevailed among SU members. Wedding celebrations were a key events and SU members travelled from all around the country to give their support. There was a strong team spirit which made people to identify the group with derogatory names.

Looking at the fact that SU people became useful members of their society and took on influential positions, it cast a mockery on the negative attitude towards SU people. Time has proved that SU people were not Society of Confused Monkeys (SCM), a Society of Confused Gorillas (SUG), or a Satan’s Union as was supposed. SU people stood all these insulting labels and became strong and useful citizens of Botswana. SU people had an insistent passion to live for God no matter the opposition or any challenges.
